Yes. Emendia is free and open source under the MIT license. You bring your own AI provider: cloud API usage may cost money, while local models run on your own hardware.
Emendia works with editors and text fields that support standard copy and paste. Some applications may not support capture or replacement. You can copy the suggestion and paste it yourself. Replacement inserts plain text, without rich formatting.
Yes, with a model hosted locally through Ollama, LM Studio or a compatible local service. Your selected text is sent to the provider you configure, so data handling depends on that provider.
Yes. All four translation and proofreading shortcuts are configurable. The application supports light, dark and system themes, with an English or French interface.
Download a release, launch Emendia and follow the setup assistant. Choose a provider, an available model and your language preferences. Then select a sentence and use Ctrl+F12 for translation or Ctrl+F11 for proofreading.
Emendia’s quality depends on the model you use. Some less capable local models can reduce translation quality, miss mistakes or produce unnatural rewrites. Choose a model that follows instructions well and performs reliably in the languages you use, while fitting your computer’s capabilities.
